Ronin: A Visions Novel

Ronin: A Visions Novel by Emma Mieko Candon

A tie-in to the anime short film "The Duel" from the Star Wars: Visions series on Disney+, Ronin is the first ever full novel set in a re-imagined alternate Star Wars universe completely separate from the Legends and New Canon timelines.

Forget everything you know about the history of the Star Wars galaxy, and dive into an all new world of Jedi and Sith based around the look and feel of feudal Japan. The book is written by a Japanese-American author.

Lost Tribe of the Sith: The Collected Stories

Lost Tribe of the Sith: The Collected Stories by John Jackson Miller
Originally a series of free eBooks (but with new chapters added in print), Lost Tribe of the Sith tells the story of a group of ancient Sith warriors who get trapped on a remote planet and mix with the locals to form their own culture over a period of generations. It's a companion story to the Fate of the Jedi series, which continues the story hundreds of years later, when the Lost Tribe escapes from the planet and returns to the greater galaxy 40 years after Return of the Jedi.

The Darth Bane saga

The Darth Bane saga by Drew Karpyshyn
A thousand years before the events of the Star Wars movies, the last Sith Empire was defeated...but one ambitious survivor saved the Sith Order by taking it underground, setting the stage for the rise of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader a millennium later. This is the story of that man, and one of the most raved-about Star Wars book series.

Darth Plagueis

Darth Plagueis by James Luceno
A story set over the course of decades, this is the history how the Sith rose again to power through the schemes of Darth Plagueis, the ambitious Sith Lord who trained the later-emperor Palpatine in the ways of the Force!

In many ways, it's more of a biography of Palpatine (a.k.a. Darth Plagueis) than of Plagueis himself, so it comes very much recommended for anyone interested in young Palpatine as well.

A fan-favorite novel, and something of a masterpiece of the late Legends publishing days, pulling together and drawing dots between many of the other Legends books, comics, and even video games set during the prequel era.

The Jedi Academy Trilogy

The Jedi Academy Trilogy by Kevin J. Anderson
Though fan opinions vary on its quality, the Jedi Academy Trilogy plays a key role in the timeline of Legends novels set after Return of the Jedi. The series follows Luke Skywalker's mission to rebuild the Jedi Order by searching out Force-sensitive candidates and establishing a new Jedi Academy on Yavin IV. All does not go well at first, with a powerful Imperial superweapon emerging from hiding even as the spirit of an ancient Sith Lord works to corrupt the new generation of Jedi apprentices.

Crosscurrent & Riptide by Paul S. Kemp

Meanwhile, an ancient Jedi and Sith caught in a hyperspace time warp are on a collision course with all the action. Rollicking adventures starring a mostly new and endearing (but inexplicably all-male) cast of characters.

But there are bigger threats to face: A long-lost Sith tribe plots to overthrow the Alliance, even as a mysterious ancient power drives young Jedi insane before threatening the galaxy with an apocalyptic purge.

The backstory of the Sith group in this series is told in the book Lost Tribe of the Sith. Consider reading that book first to better appreciate parts of Fate of the Jedi, or reading it afterwards if you want to learn more.
