Ronin: A Visions Novel

Ronin: A Visions Novel by Emma Mieko Candon

A tie-in to the anime short film "The Duel" from the Star Wars: Visions series on Disney+, Ronin is the first ever full novel set in a re-imagined alternate Star Wars universe completely separate from the Legends and New Canon timelines.

Forget everything you know about the history of the Star Wars galaxy, and dive into an all new world of Jedi and Sith based around the look and feel of feudal Japan. The book is written by a Japanese-American author.

This book isn't part of either the Legends or New Canon timelines. Don't expect it to fit in with any past or future Star Wars stories (even the movies!) except for the short film "The Duel".

The High Republic: Light of the Jedi

The High Republic: Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule
Tales of the ancient Jedi were a major staple of the old Star Wars Expanded Universe (now "Legends"), and now the new Star Wars canon is venturing there as well.

Light of the Jedi is the first of the new The High Republic publishing program, telling stories of the Old Republic and the Jedi set 200 years before the movies. (This is actually a different time period than the Old Republic stories from the Legends timeline, which mostly take place thousands of years before the movies.)

The High Republic is a time when both the Jedi and the Republic are at the height of their power - but that doesn't mean there's any shortage of challenges and adventures!

The High Republic: Into the Dark

The High Republic: Into the Dark by Claudia Gray
Published alongside the first High Republic adult novel, Light of the Jedi, this is a tie-in story written for mature young adult readers by Claudia Gray, well-regarded author of Lost Stars, Leia: Princess of Alderaan, and other Star Wars stories.

Into the Dark is part of new The High Republic publishing program, telling stories of the Old Republic and the Jedi set 200 years before the movies. In this case the story follows a bookish Jedi apprentice who's drawn into galactic events against his will, entwined in a dangerous mystery in space.

Doctor Aphra (Audiobook and Script)

Doctor Aphra by Sarah Kuhn
Based on the popular Doctor Aphra character from the canon Darth Vader comic books, Doctor Aphra is the second Star Wars story to debut as an audiobook exclusive, with a full cast of voice performers just like Dooku: Jedi Lost.

The audiobook both adapts and expands upon the story from the comics, telling the story of how a quirky rogue archaeologist ends up working for Darth Vader himself.

If you don't like to listen to audiobooks or aren't able to, you can also buy the script of the story as a printed book.

Alphabet Squadron

Alphabet Squadron by Alexander Freed
Many longtime Star Wars readers fondly remember the Rogue Squadron and Wraith Squadron X-Wing novels by Michael Stackpole and Aaron Allston, a staple of the old Legends timeline. Now, the new Star Wars canon has a ragtag fighter squadron of its own.

Named "Alphabet Squadron" for their combination of A-Wing, B-Wing, X-Wing, and Y-Wing starfighters, and serving under a major character from the Star Wars: Rebels TV show, the group of pilots must hunt down and battle an elite TIE-fighter squadron in the months after Return of the Jedi.

For the other side of the story, check out the TIE Fighter graphic novel from Marvel Comics.

The Aftermath Trilogy

The Aftermath Trilogy by Chuck Wendig
The first new canon stories set after Return of the Jedi! In the months after the destruction of the second Death Star, the Empire is not yet dead. But when a group of high-level Imperials convene for a secret meeting on the planet Akiva, they soon find themselves on the defensive against an impromptu collection of rag-tag rebels, who will later go on to even greater adventures! Meanwhile, Imperial Admiral Rae Sloane, an outsider to the circles of galactic power, finds herself tasked with holding together the faltering Empire.

These books have gotten a kind of "love it or hate it" reaction from readers. Written in an unconventional style. Everything is happening in third-person present tense. Many short, incomplete sentences. But we found them really entertaining, with good character development.

Lost Stars

Lost Stars by Claudia Gray

Though officially a a young adult novel, Lost Stars is over 500 pages long, beloved by many adult Star Wars fans, and much more mature than any other Star Wars young adult novel published in the past.

Force Collector

Force Collector by Kevin Shinick
A lighthearted story about a high school kid running away from home to learn more about the Jedi, this is, well, not the most adult of Disney-Lucasfilm's line of young adult Star Wars novels. But that doesn't mean it's not a fun read, and it also has some small connections to places and things from The Rise of Skywalker movie and Disney's Galaxy's Edge theme park.

The flagship tie-in to the new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge theme park experience at Disneyland and Disney World, Black Spire tells the story of a ragtag group of allies on the planet Batuu who have to team up to survive against the First Order. Set before and after The Last Jedi film, it features the return of Resistance spy Vi Moradi from the Phasma novel, and is written by the same author.

A Crash of Fate

A Crash of Fate by Zoraida Córdova
Been looking for another epic Star Wars teen romance novel ever since Lost Stars? Of course you have. Well, here it is: Set between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker movies, A Crash of Fate brings together two childhood friends from the planet Batuu, who, well, probably aren't staying "just friends" for long. The book is also a tie-in to the Disney's Galaxy's Edge theme park, which is set on Batuu.

Though officially a young adult novel, A Crash of Fate is 350 pages long and part of the same more-mature publishing line as Lost Stars, Ahsoka, Queen's Shadow, and other great books.
