The High Republic: Light of the Jedi

The High Republic: Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule
Tales of the ancient Jedi were a major staple of the old Star Wars Expanded Universe (now "Legends"), and now the new Star Wars canon is venturing there as well.

Light of the Jedi is the first of the new The High Republic publishing program, telling stories of the Old Republic and the Jedi set 200 years before the movies. (This is actually a different time period than the Old Republic stories from the Legends timeline, which mostly take place thousands of years before the movies.)

The High Republic is a time when both the Jedi and the Republic are at the height of their power - but that doesn't mean there's any shortage of challenges and adventures!

The High Republic: Into the Dark

The High Republic: Into the Dark by Claudia Gray
Published alongside the first High Republic adult novel, Light of the Jedi, this is a tie-in story written for mature young adult readers by Claudia Gray, well-regarded author of Lost Stars, Leia: Princess of Alderaan, and other Star Wars stories.

Into the Dark is part of new The High Republic publishing program, telling stories of the Old Republic and the Jedi set 200 years before the movies. In this case the story follows a bookish Jedi apprentice who's drawn into galactic events against his will, entwined in a dangerous mystery in space.

Master & Apprentice

Master & Apprentice by Claudia Gray
The professional and personal trials of Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his young apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi were once a staple of Star Wars chapter books for kids, and inspired several comic book stories too. Now, there's finally an adult novel featuring the old-school Jedi duo, bringing their pre-Episode I adventures into the new Star Wars canon.

Master & Apprentice , which takes place about eight years before The Phantom Menace, is written by Claudia Gray, popular author of Star Wars novels Lost Stars, Bloodline, and Leia, Princess of Alderaan.

Queen's Shadow

Queen's Shadow by E.K. Johnston

Dooku: Jedi Lost (Audiobook and Script)

Dooku: Jedi Lost by Cavan Scott
Unlike other Star Wars audiobooks, which are readings of books that were written for print, Dooku: Jedi Lost was made especially for audio - the first Star Wars book of its kind. It's also narrated by a full cast playing the different characters in the story, in a way more like a radio play than a book.

The "book" is a sort of origin story for Count Dooku, telling the backstory of how he rose in the Jedi ranks and ultimately ended up leaving the order and turning to the dark side. In the story, his background is being researched during the Clone Wars by his apprentice, Asajj Ventress.

If you don't like to listen to audiobooks or aren't able to, you can also buy the script of the story as a printed book.

This book takes place between Attack of the Clones and The Clone Wars movie and TV show, and right before the Obi-Wan and Anakin novel Brotherhood.

Brotherhood

Brotherhood by Mike Chen

Though The Clone Wars TV show is part of the new Star Wars canon, there are still surprisingly few canon books about the Clone Wars period. But here comes a new one: Brotherhood is a story about Obi-Wan and Anakin coming to terms with working together as adults amid a galaxy at war. The story takes place in between Attack of the Clones and the beginning of The Clone Wars animated movie and TV show, and just after the Padmé novel Queen's Hope.

This will be the first Star Wars novel from author Mike Chen, though he did also write a short story for The Empire Strikes Back: From a Certain Point of View.

The book takes place at the same time that the Clone Wars were raging elsewhere in the galaxy, and overlaps with the flashback story in Thrawn: Alliances.

Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel

Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel by James Luceno
This is an important prequel to the 2016 spin-off film Rogue One! Written by veteran Star Wars author James Luceno, Catalyst tells how pacifist scientist Galen Erso, later infamous for designing the devastating Death Star superlaser, was manipulated into the role by one-time friend Orson Krennic. A thoughtful, character-based tale that provides a rich backstory to the opening scene of Rogue One, this novel also reveals a great deal about the creation of the Death Star according to the new Star Wars canon.

Catalyst is the tenth Star Wars novel by James Luceno, whose other works include the canon novel Tarkin, fan-favorite Legends novel Darth Plagueis, and two other Star Wars movie lead-in books.
